I’ve tried a lot of hiking gear over the years. Every year it feels like my kit changes quite a bit as I test new things in better efforts to be a more well rounded hiker. I also like to try different gear so that I can better help others! Because of this youtube channel, I want to be able to advise others on what works and what doesn’t.

It’s been a fun journey across the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, Arizona Trail, and so many others inbetween. After all these years however and some items have really stood out among the rest. It doesn’t mean any other gear is bad, I’ve loved so much of that too! But that for one reason or another, the backpacking gear in this video seems more interesting, and has never let me down in any way.

From a book by Ray Jardine that has taught me so much, to a japanese style of fly fishing known as tenkara, a budget hiking shirt by columbia, and a flat tarp by zpacks. This list I hope is eclectic and interesting in itself.

Out of all my gear lists, and all the gear I’ve ever used, this is my favorite.

  1. Hey thanks for watching! Post up in the comments what would be on your list of all time favorite gear!! I think it’s interesting that everyone could be so unique in this

  2. We rented Juanita Banana in 2022! Did you have any issues with the passenger side door not locking?
We loved that trip and loved that Van.
    Oahu is a special spot.
    Loved the video.
I was hoping you went to Kualoa Ranch on the east side of the island that place is amazing (filmed Jurassic park there.)

  3. I did the AZT and NNML in Bedrocks, which had some advantages but ultimately made life harder than necessary. For the DWTH and Hayduke I took both the sandals and light shoes. While it definitely wasn’t the UL decision, switching back and forth depending on terrain and foot condition was so enjoyable that I don’t see myself switching back to one or the other.

  4. Did ray jardine influence the marine corps? Though in fairness, the marines didn’t care about making shit light. If they the jardines did influence them, hell yeah. If not…well, my inspiration comes from my past traumas and constant hatred of my body and need to inflict pain on myself….bc pain is weakness leaving the body

  5. I switched 1 of my walking poles for a storm golf umbrella ok for stability in my 1 hand and a proper walking pole in my dominant hand
